Sjabbat

The recordings on this page were made by Mr. S. Elzas (SE). As an introduction he says: "... chazzanut usually is an oral tradition, therefore one may and should adapt, unless the melody is a written composition. And even then it is sometimes done".

We have chosen to use the S. Elzas tapes as a basis to learn because only these bring the complete services. However, this site also has parts of the services sung by other chazzanim. At the bottom this page there are hyperlinks to these recordings. It is advisable to listen to these pieces in order to be able to increase the repertoire of the chazzanim.

Elzas recorded on this four tapes the complete Shabbat service. It therefore serves as the basis. The second column links to recordings from other pages on this site which contain Shabbat melodies.
